Before anyone becomes a gun owner (or maybe you already are and just want to buff up on your knowledge on the subject), they should read a couple of books, subscribe to a couple of magazines, take a course of gun safety from your local range, and make sure you have a gun safe at hand.
1) “A Well-Regulated Militia: The Battle Over Gun Control” by William Weir
The author is a member of both (anti-gun) Handgun Control, Inc. and (pro-gun) NRA and is able to debunk a lot of the myths about gun ownership in America. This is an even keel look at the gun control battle taking place.
2) The Complete Gun Owner: Your Guide to Selection, Use, Safety and Self-Defense by James Morgan Ayres
A great resource for responsible gun owners everywhere, this book touches on everything you’d need to know before taking ownership of a gun. Of course, this doesn’t mean you can ditch out on your gun safety class at the range.
3) Essential Guide to Handguns: Firearm Instruction for Personal Defense and Protection by Stephen R. Rementer and Bruce N. Eimer
For the gun owner interested in the end-to-end discussion on gun ownership—includes information on firearm ownership and use issues, instruction on safe range procedures, tactical self-protection tools and tips for ensuring that you are ready if you ever need to use your gun for protection.
Do you have any good books that you’d recommend to the SafeGunSafes community? We’d love to come up with an essential reading list straight from the bookshelves of our readers.
