I just wanted to tell you that our parent company drills out safes, fire file cabinets and vaults after a fire. The handle and lock (both dial combo and electronic) actually melt into the door, like a blob of metal. It doesn't matter what type of lock you have on your safe or fire file cabinet.. it will be destroyed. You then call a qualified safe tech to drill the safe open. Thanks.. I wish you had gone into the the gauge of steel the body should be. I purchased my first safe from Canon because I didn't know any better and I purchased a 10 gauge steel body which most companies use to make their safes. Now I have learned that 7 ot 8 gauge steel for the exterior body is better and that some companies do use 8 gauge steel for their safes. I guess hind sight is always 20/20. I hear s many horror stories on children getting a hold of firearms because the parent forgot to secure or lockup it up. I agree educating your children on the danger of firearms but I also strongly suggest purchasing a firearm safe to not only protect your investment but also save the life a courious child.
